Our Vines
Whenever possible our nursery stock is pruned strait out of our family vineyard. Propagation wood is collected and graded, we select and use only the strongest and healthiest cuttings for our nursery stock.
Our dormant bare-root vines are kept dormant from the time we prune until our outdoor nursery is planted in May. The soil in our nursery is naturally very fertile and rich in organic matter, in addition we've incorporated sand to improve drainage and eliminate compaction. Our soil promotes the establishment of strong and healthy root systems on our nursery stock. After a summer of growing the first freeze pushes the vines into dormancy. We then dig, prune, and store them in our temperature and humidity controled root cellar until spring shipment.
Our potted greenhouse vines start life in the greenhouse in March and are ready to transplant into the vineyard mid May - June. These vines are actively growing and need to be kept moist until the time of planting. The vines will be ready to plant as soon as you receive them, but should not be planted until the last frost has passed.
Plant Care
Dormant bare-root vines should be planted as soon as possible once you receive them, as they are still frost tolerant while dormant.
If immediate planting is not possible, keep the vines cool (34° to 40°F) and moist, for best results vines must be planted by the first week of June.
Potted vines should be planted after the danger of the last spring frost has passed.
If prompt planting is not possible the vines should be kept in a frost free environment at
night and placed in full to partial sun during the day.
All vines should be well watered on the date of planting, and as needed throughout the first summer. Established vines should not need watering unless you are on an extremely dry and sandy site.
